Flu cases on the rise in Washington

The Washington State Department of Health is telling residents the flu in now widespread, which means the illness is in more than half of communities across the state.

The flu has spread rapidly across the United States, beginning earlier than usual this year. Typically the flu season peaks in January or February.

Six people have died from the flu this season, all in Western Washington. Last year there were 18 flu related deals and 36 the year before.

Flu vaccines are widely available at most local pharmacies and doctors offices.
